Technique steps
- Establish Connection: Rather than starting from a seated position without contact, use a half-butterfly guard to create a lower-body hook on the opponent's leg
- Grip Acquisition: Establish two-on-one control or wrist control from a supine (lying) position
- Monitor Head Position: Intentionally allow the opponent to take inside head position (forehead to neck) to set up the trap
- The Shift: Simultaneously extend the butterfly hook and remove the half-guard leg to shift into a perpendicular body position
- Perpendicular Pull: Use the mechanical advantage of the perpendicular angle to pull the opponent through, exposing their back
